The new home secretary will face police calls for new laws, more recruitment and changes to the criminal justice system, reports The Guardian (p6).

The police federation's annual conference at Blackpool will be addressed by the home secretary on May 21.

The motions include a call to stop sex offenders representing themselves in court, a ban on handguns and measures to restore public confidence in the criminal justice system.
