Michael Katz has joined the press office of the Local Government Association. As part of the LGA's press team, he will play a key role in promoting local government and the work of the association.

Building a stronger national voice for local communities is a prime aim of the LGA. It is out to put local government back at the heart of the nation.

Mr Katz, 25, is a former political journalist and researcher. He has worked for the BBC on live political programmes and in the political research unit. More recently, he worked for The Economist in the run-up to, and during, the general election.

From his work as a researcher, Michael has wide experience of the many different issues affecting local government. Also, he has previously worked on the employment, health and education portfolios as press officer to Harriet Harman MP and researcher to David Blunkett MP.

In his new role at the LGA, Mr Katz will be the lead contact for finance and issues relating to local democracy, governance and constitutional matters.
