Welsh Secretary John Redwood has asked Welsh Office officials to draw up guidelines setting out circumstances in which the political affiliations of future quango appointees should be made known, the Western Mail reports (p5).

Yesterday in the Commons opposition MPs raised the issue of Conservative links of Welsh Development Agency chair David Rowe-Beddoe.

The paper said that past chairs of party associations, former MPs and election candidates are likely to have their political links highlighted when appointed to public bodies.
