Brighton & Hove City Council have appointed Geoff Raw as their chief executive after being in the role on an acting basis for five months.
Councillors unanimously backed the appointment at a meeting of full council on 22 October.
In a statement Mr Raw said he did not “underestimate the challenges ahead” but added he was “excited and ambitious” about the city’s potential.
LGC previously reported how predecessor Penny Thompson left the local authority following a change in administration after the elections in May.
Mr Raw joined Brighton & Hove in November 2010. He was previously the council’s executive director of environment, development and housing. Mr Raw, a professional town planner, has also worked for Brent LBC, the Mayor of London, and the Treasury.
