Gloucestershire CC and Gloucester City Council have agreed to share back-office services.
The two in March appointed Jon McGinty (pictured), deputy chief executive of Aylesbury Vale DC, to the joint role of managing director for Gloucester and commissioning director for the county. He takes up the post in July.
They have also now signed an agreement to move to joint back-office services.
Gloucester had a difficult year after the departure of chief executive Julian Wain.
It then became ‘chiefless’, with Mr Wain’s duties shared between director of resources Peter Gillett and director of services and neighbourhoods Martin Shields. The former left for a post at Bristol City Council shortly afterwards.
County leader Mark Hawthorne (Con) said: “This is an agreement that will help us to build on the work we have done in recent years to make our money go further and focus on the services that people told us were important.”
Paul James (Con), the city’s leader, said he was “sure we can learn an awful lot from each other to help us to deliver quality services for all our residents”.
