Conwy CBC has selected an internal candidate to replace Byron Davies who resigned earlier this year.
A full meeting of the council last night selected Iwan Davies, acting corporate director since March 2010, as the next chief executive.
Mr Iwan Davies, right, was previously the head of legal and democratic services at the council having joined the then Aberconwy BC in 1993 as a solicitor.
Mr Byron Davies stood down by mutual agreement in June after being suspended more than a year previously and investigated for allegations of gross misconduct.
The former chief executive of Caradon DC, who joined Conwy in 2009, was suspended in March 2010 over allegations that he had misled the council’s disciplinary committee about past criminal matters.
During the same period he was separately charged with and cleared of rape and, after he was acquitted in March 2010, he was suspended again over claims of giving misleading evidence, and concerns about bullying staff and conducting civic business in pubs.
Mr Iwan Davies was one of a member of senior officers who took on extra responsibilities while the former chief executive was investigated.
