Leicester City Council has suspended its director of adult social services pending an independent investigation into her conduct.
A statement from the authority in relation to strategic director for adults and communities Kim Curry said the action had been taken as a temporary measure.
“We can confirm that a strategic director has been suspended in order that an investigation may take place,” it said.
“Suspension in this situation is a neutral act and does not imply guilt.
“It would be inappropriate for us to comment further on the investigation while it is ongoing.
“Another member of the strategic management board has taken on the director’s key responsibilities as an interim measure”.
A city council spokesman said he was unable to comment on local media reports that Ms Curry’s suspension related to concerns aired over her management style.
