The housing and communities secretary has extended the consultation period for reorganisation in Northamptonshire by four weeks.
The deadline by which the county and district councils in Northamptonshire can submit proposals on reorganisation has been extended until “the end of August”, James Brokenshire announced today.
Local authority leaders and chief executives in the county said they were “pleased” with Mr Brokenshire’s decision.
Ian McCord (Con), leader of South Northamptonshire Council, said: “The extension to August for the submission of a proposal is still an incredibly tight time frame; however, the extra time will allow us talk to more people and understanding and explain the current challenges in more detail. That way we will have greater confidence in our proposal.”
The original deadline for restructuring proposals had been set by previous communities secretary Sajid Javid for 27 July.
