How should Solace relate to bodies including the Local Government Association, professional bodies such as Association of Directors for Adult Social Services, the government and individual councils?

JM: To coin a phrase, we are stronger together. We should lead and collaborate, share and shape, and leave well alone when we can’t add value! And we mustn’t stick just to public service bodies. Organisations like the CBI, IOD, BCCI, consumer organisations, regulators and thinktanks are also part of the spheres of influence we need to be steeped in.

TH: Solace needs a strong voice, but that alone is not enough.  The voice has to be one that people want to listen to because it is collaborative, and informed with a strong mandate and engagement from our membership. The various professional bodies, of which we are one, need to position ourselves as part of the solution, not simply articulate the problem.
