With less money, more freedom and rising demand for services, local government managers are facing a dizzying array of opportunities, pressures and risks. Local government management will lead the debate on these issues at the Solace Summit. This year LGC is supporting the summit as media partner.
More from: LGC View - Solace Summit
The event is a summit, not a conference. It aims to provide a top quality programme that enables chief executives and senior managers to come together with our partners in other sectors to learn, debate and shape local government’s programme of action.
It is a unique opportunity for senior managers to inspire each other and return to their councils better equipped for their jobs.
The programme includes a number of high quality speakers - but the emphasis is on participation and facilitated learning within five challenging workstreams. The five workstreams provide both inspiration and provocation.
Our themes are: Your Local Future; A Democratic Path?; The Expectation of Prosperity; Doing Less With Less; and An Informed Future. The leaders of each of the streams consider the big questions across these pages.
Over the coming weeks LGC will be regularly covering the topics underpinning the summit. Afterwards each workstream will be revisited in a special report on the outcome of debates and progress since.
The conversation has already started. At the Solace Blog dozens of managers have contributed views on everything from the future of education to reducing carbon emissions. We invite you to join in at http://thesolaceblog.wordpress.com.

The Solace Summit is a unique and unrivalled opportunity for senior management professionals to engage in peer-to-peer learning. It provides new entrepreneurial opportunities for dialogue and shared endeavour, with new and existing contacts. LGC is supporting the event as media partner and will be reporting on the themes before and after the event.
