Smith to lead sharing districts

  • Comment

Harborough DC chief executive Sue Smith is moving to lead two districts as a shared chief executive.

She will become chief at Cherwell DC, Oxfordshire and South Northamptonshire Council, an appointment that straddles county boundaries. Both are Conservative controlled.

Ms Smith has been Harborough’s chief executive since 2005, and before that was at Lichfield DC since 1991, successively as head of leisure services, corporate director, and deputy chief executive.

Her appointment is due to take effect in May subject to ratification by both councils.

The two councils agreed in December to share a senior management team, a move they said would save Cherwell £3.4m over five years and South Northamptonshire £1.8m.

Ms Smith will lead a shared team of three directors, eight heads of service, and three senior managers.
