Northamptonshire CC’s director of children, families and education is to leave the council ahead of the publication of an Ofsted report, it has been announced.
Lesley Hagger’s departure was revealed by council leader Matt Golby (Con) at a meeting of the Northamptonshire health and wellbeing board yesterday.
Ms Hagger, who is to join Sandwell MBC as director of children’s services, joined the Northamptonshire in July 2016 on the request of the Department for Education.
The council’s children’s social care services were rated ‘requires improvement’ in a report published three months before Ms Hagger’s arrival.
Northamptonshire is currently considering delivering children’s services through an arm’s-length company, with a shadow board established to trial new ways of working for six months.
Yesterday the government announced two commissioners would be sent in to run the council. This was in response to a highly critical report on the council’s leadership and management by inspector Max Caller.
Former Lincolnshire CC chief executive Tony McArdle has been appointed lead commissioner and will be supported by former Leicestershire CC deputy chief executive Brian Roberts.
Ms Hagger was previously director of children and young people at Leicestershire CC.
