A former Cabinet Office director is set to become the interim chief executive at Newham LBC.

Mayor of Newham Rokhsana Fiaz (Lab) confirmed Katherine Kerswell will be appointed for an initial six months following the announcement that Kim Bromley-Derry will retire on 31 August.

Ms Kerswell has previously served as chief executive at Solihull MBC, Northamptonshire CC and managing director at Kent CC.

From 2012 she was both director general, civil service reform, and director general, efficiency and reform, in the Cabinet Office.

She joined Capita in 2015 as health services director.

Ms Fiaz said: “I am delighted Katherine is joining us as interim chief executive. I am looking forward to tapping into her extensive knowledge of resident focus, commercial skills, and leading large organisations through change.

“She shares the commitment of this new administration to put people at the heart of everything we do and introduce greater diversity to the council. Katherine will also be supporting through the process of looking for a new permanent chief executive.”

Ms Kerswell’s appointment will be considered at a meeting of full council in September.
