Former clerical assistant vows to innovate as new chief

A district council is set to appoint a former clerical assistant as its new chief executive.

Hayley Barsby will take on the role at Mansfield DC on a permanent basis after serving as interim chief executive since May last year, subject to approval by councillors at a meeting today.

Ms Barsby has worked at Mansfield for 19 years and held eight roles since joining as a clerical assistant.

These include head of housing and director of communities.

Ms Barsby said since she took over as interim chief executive, the council has been working to ensure services are delivered “in a more innovative and creative way”.

She added: “We need to be able to respond, not only to the needs of our community now, but to predict future demand and meet changing needs.

“This means exploring whether the council should continue to provide existing services or whether another public, a private or voluntary sector organisation should be commissioned or assisted in delivering those services instead.”
