Interim chief executive John Hooton was unanimously approved by councillors on Tuesday to become the borough’s chief executive and head of paid service.

Prior to taking on the role on an interim basis last May, Mr Hooton served as the council’s chief operating officer and deputy finance director having joined in 2010.

Mr Hooton, who started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the government and public sector division, worked for Barking & Dagenham LBC in 2004 where he became assistant director of finance.
