St Helen’s MBC has appointed the chief accountable officer at the area’s clinical commissioning group as strategic director of people’s services in a joint role.

Sarah O’Brien has been chief accountable officer at St Helen’s CCG since 2016 and the appointment will enable further integration of services, St Helens MBC’s chief executive Mike Palin said.

He added: “We have been working collaboratively for well over a year with the CCG moving towards a point where we would be able to fully integrate our services for the benefit of people in St Helens.

“We are delighted to have someone of Sarah’s calibre appointed to the role. She brings with her a wealth of NHS and leadership experience, which will be invaluable to us as we move forward on our journey.”

Ms O’Brien was previously the deputy director of nursing at the St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and is deputy chair of the local safeguarding children’s board.
