People news: Borough deletes top job in restructure

Nuneaton & Bedworth BC’s managing director Alan Franks is to leave the council after the post was deleted. The new management structure, approved by full council on 21 March, will comprise of four directors and two executive directors. The executive directors are Brent Davis, who has been appointed head of operations and head of paid service, and Simone Hines, who will become head of resources and section 151 officer. The new structure will be effective from June, when Mr Franks is scheduled to depart.

John Robinson will become the new chief executive of Newark & Sherwood DC, subject to full council approval. Mr Robinson is currently chief executive of Gedling BC, after joining the council in 2008 as deputy chief executive. Kirsty Cole has been acting chief executive at Newark & Sherwood since the departure of Andrew Muter who joined States of Alderney as chief executive in February.

Alison Botham has been appointed joint director of children’s services at Plymouth City Council and Torbay Council. Plymouth will take on managerial responsibility for Torbay’s children’s services under a contract that came into effect on 1 April. Hampshire CC chief executive John Coughlan will continue to advise both councils during the transition phase in his role as government commissioner. Ms Botham joined Plymouth as assistant director for social care in 2013 and became assistant for children, young people and families in December 2014.

Tower Hamlets LBC and Tower Hamlets Clinical Commissioning Group have appointed Warwick Tomsett as joint director of integrated commissioning. Mr Tomsett will be responsible for fully integrating health and social care commissioning for the Tower Hamlets Together Care partnership. He is currently head of targeted services and joint commissioning at Lewisham LBC and Lewisham CCG.

Fiona Fletcher-Smith

Fiona Fletcher-Smith is to join housing association L&Q as group director for development and sales. Ms Fletcher-Smith is currently executive director of development, enterprise and environment at the Greater London Authority, where she oversaw the delivery of initiatives such as the London Plan and the Economic Development Strategy. Ms Fletcher-Smith will be responsible for delivering L&Q’s plan to create 100,000 new homes over the next decade.

North Lanarkshire Council chief executive Paul Jukes has announced his retirement. Mr Jukes has worked at the council, and its predecessor Motherwell DC, for 31 years.
