Tendring top job goes to audit body manager

A senior manager from the Audit Commission is to be the next chief executive of Tendring DC, it has been announced.

Ian Davidson is due to start work at the Essex council in early December and will take over completely when John Hawkins retires at the start of next year.

He leaves the Audit Commission, where he has been responsible for inspections of councils including those in Essex, ahead of its abolition, announced earlier this year.

Tendring leader Neil Stock (Con) said Mr Davidson had the support of all the parties represented on the council, over which none have overall control. Cllr Stock also thanked the current chief executive, Mr Hawkins, for the 21 years he had dedicated to the council.

“In our search for a new chief executive we advertised for ‘The Special One’ and it is our view that we have found him,” he said.

“There are difficult financial times ahead for everyone in local government but we feel we have the man to lead us through them.”
