Walsall MBC is set to appoint Wrexham CBC boss Helen Paterson as its new chief executive.

Subject to confirmation by full council on 7 August, it is expected Ms Paterson will join Walsall in the autumn. She will replace Paul Sheehan who in March announced plans to retire.

Ms Paterson has been chief executive at Wrexham since 2011. She has previously been executive director of children’s services and strategic director for transformation at Sunderland City Council and was director of school improvement at Solihull MBC from 2003 to 2005.

Council leader Sean Coughlan (Lab) said:The [appointment] committee was impressed by both her previous achievements in various roles at different local authorities and in her involvement in shaping innovative national practice across a number of fields including regeneration, education, health, social care and also in the development of alternative delivery models.”
