Your changing LGC

  • Comment

The frenetic pace of change in local government has recently been dizzying.

The national political landscape has been rapidly reshaped with far-reaching consequences for the sector, devolution deals have risen and fallen, and councils have to respond ever more speedily to dramatic changes to their finances.

Time stands still for no one. It also stands still for no magazine. Print products including this magazine can seem tardy in a digital world – stories often move on by the time you read them in print. All of the stories and columns in this magazine will have already appeared online before you read them here.

LGC publishes far more online than in print: only a fraction of our overall output makes it into the magazine. Digitally we can offer links to supporting material and other stories that enhance your understanding of stories.

The overwhelming majority of readers have turned to as their number one source of news

LGC has taken the strategic decision to invest in above our print product. This move has been supported by our readers, the overwhelming majority of whom have now turned to as their number one source of local government news, opinion and best practice. Our subscription levels have increased significantly in recent times as more people appreciate the depth of the LGC offer. No other local government title offers anything approaching the breadth, speed and quality of LGC’s digital service.

We have also received a hugely positive response to our newsletters, keeping you abreast of all the breaking news in the sector, and our LGC Briefing, which delivers a commentary on the key developments of the day directly to your inbox. You can also use our website to easily find the stories about the service areas and regions that are most vital for you and your career. And our interactive devolution map gives you the best one-stop picture of the current picture of devolution around the country. Please get in touch with us by emailing or phoning 020 3033 2626 if you feel you are missing out on some of our digital offer.

As we turn our energies to digital, we have taken a decision that this magazine will in future be published fortnightly. The magazine will become more analytical, with more in-depth investigations and more detailed insight, to better complement our online news service. Although the magazine will primarily appear fortnightly, there will be some bonus editions of the title to coincide with key local government events and the most significant news periods, and (as has been the case previously) fewer editions at holiday times or Christmas.

We hope you support this move. LGC is confident it will mean that we can offer you more, higher quality news and insight, ever more speedily.
