Devo deal done for North of Tyne

  • Comment

Ministers have agreed a devolution deal for the North of Tyne area, with a new combined authority.

This will cover the areas of Newcastle City Council, Northumberland CC and North Tyneside MBC, in a deal worth £600m.

Northern Powerhouse minister Jake Berry’s signing of a parliamentary order last night paves the way for the appointment of an interim mayor until an election next May.

The three North of Tyne authorities decided to seek a devolution deal after those south of the river pulled out of a North East bid.
