A new MP has joined the Department for Communities & Local Government after Andrew Percy stepped down from his role as Northern Powerhouse minister.

The MP for Brigg & Goole made the announcement on his Facebook page Wednesday afternoon.

He said: “Was a privilege to be asked to continue serving in my role in government as a minister, but I have reluctantly decided to step down and leave the government.

“I thank the prime minister for offering me this role again but I have decided to pursue other challenges. She continues to enjoy my full support from the backbenches.

“I will not be making any further comment or doing any media on my decision. Thanks to all my civil servants to their incredible support in the role.

“My work as our local MP continues unchanged.”

Thursday morning Jake Berry, MP for Rossendale and Darwen in Lancashire, was listed on DCLG’s website. It is believed he will take on Mr Percy’s role although a DCLG spokesman told LGC it had not yet been decided.

* This story was updated at 10.22am on 15 June following the appointment of Jake Berry to the DCLG ministerial team.
