Porter sorry for ‘inappropriate’ joke at LGA conference

  • Comment

Lord Porter (Con) has apologised following criticism over a joke he made referring to women as “birds” at the Local Government Association conference in Birmingham.

The association chair, who reaches the end of his four-year term next year, did not directly acknowledge the joke, but offered a general apology following as the conference closed on Thursday.

“I’m going to shut up now because I’ll probably end up saying something inadvertently inappropriate again, which is not something I would like to do, clearly,” he said.

“I like to leave people happy, not upset, and if I have upset anybody I am truly, truly sorry for that.”
