Inside Out: introducing LGC's insider

During the working day (and beyond) the LGC Insider serves as chief executive at a single-tier council. But as the darkness falls he shares with LGC readers his innermost thoughts and records his workplace experiences.

Previously he has worked across local government, having started out at a district. He regards himself as a true public servant who has served politicians of all parties. Some say he is such an obsessive localist that he has empowered his socks to change themselves and that his DNA string spells “municipal pride”.

The Inside Out column draws on the author’s extensive experience. Some aspects of the column are fictionalised to a degree to ensure anonymity, but all reflect the reality of life as the the LGC Insider.

  • How exciting that local government now has its very own Stig in the form of LGC’s Inside Out column.

But how long can he keep his identity a secret? Can we soon expect Eric Pickles to write to every council leader demanding that they unmask this shady commentator in the interests of transparency?

Perhaps there could be a competition at this year’s Local Government Association conference where delegates go round poking chief executives with rolled up copies of LGC while shouting: ‘You are Inside Out and I claim my £500!’ Just a thought…
