Miliband: I'd devolve £30bn to city and county regions

Labour leader Ed Miliband has said that he would transfer control of some £30bn of funding from Whitehall to local areas were he to win next year’s general election.

Writing in The Sunday Times (£), Mr Miliband said he would later this week give details of how he would implement recommendations on local growth from the former transport secretary Lord Adonis.

The £30bn would go to city and county regions over the course of the next parliament, he said.

“The scale of the challenge means the next government must also begin reversing a century of centralisation,” he wrote.
