Two London boroughs are amongst the six councils battling out for 2018’s prestigious LGC Council of the Year award, it has been announced.
The shortlist for the LGC Awards 2018 was unveiled this morning and features some of the most exciting and innovative initiatives taking place in councils across the country.
Barking & Dagenham and Southwark LBCs join Ashford, Luton and Stockton on Tees BCs and Newark & Sherwood DC in the running for Council of the Year.
The awards celebrate the teams and individuals making the biggest difference to their communities. Categories include Digital Council of the Year, Health and Social Care, Entrepreneurial Council, Housing, Public Health and Public/Private Partnership.
LGC editor Nick Golding said: “To be shortlisted for an LGC Award shows a council service is among the country’s most innovative, and doing the most to support the needs of residents as councils face budget cuts. We should salute the council officers and councillors doing the most to ensure our vital public services thrive in the era of austerity.”
The winners will be revealed at the LGC Awards ceremony in London’s Grosvenor House on 21 March. View the full shortlist here.
