Preston City Council’s chief executive Lorraine Norris is to step down from the top job later this year and retire.
Ms Norris, who began her career as a social worker and retrained as a lawyer, she eventually joined Preston as its director of corporate services in 2002 before she rose through the ranks to become the council’s chief executive in 2009.
In a statement Ms Norris said: “After nine years as CEO at Preston City Council, I am beginning to make plans to retire later this year.
“Until then it is business as usual as I continue to work with colleagues, partners and our elected members to deliver the council’s services and priorities.”
Councillors have started the process of organising a committee that will appoint Ms Norris’ successor in due course.
