North Somerset Council has announced its new chief executive, who is expected to begin her new role in the new year.

Jo Walker, currently director of strategic finance at Gloucestershire CC, will replace Helen Bailey, who is currently serving at the council on a six month interim contract. Ms Bailey recently spoke with LGC about her role at the council in an interview published online today.

North Somerset Council leader Nigel Ashton (Con) said he was “really looking forward” to Ms Walker joining the team as she had “particularly impressed us with her experience and her approach”.

“Her financial expertise will be of huge benefit as we continue to work hard to deliver much-valued local services to our residents,” he said.

Ms Walker has served in a number of roles at Gloucestershire CC over the past 30 years, including being director of highways, transport and waste services.
