Newcastle-under-Lyme BC is set to appoint a new chief executive, three months after the previous top officer stepped down following an issue with the way an election was run.

Martin Hamilton, who has been strategic director for the Dorset Councils Partnership for the last three years, is expected to be confirmed in the role at a full council meeting on 21 November.

Previous chief executive and acting returning officer John Sellgren was suspended when an investigation by the Association of Electoral Administrators found more than 1,000 voters in the Newcastle-under-Lyme constituency were disenfranchised during last year’s general election. He subsequently left the council by mutual consent this August after seven years as its chief.
