Finance director set to become London chief

Greenwich LBC is set to appoint its director of finance as permanent chief executive, subject to approval by full council.

Debbie Warren, who has been interim chief executive since August 2017, was chosen as the preferred candidate by an appointments panel last week. Her appointment is expected to be ratified by full council on 12 December.

Ms Warren, who has worked at the council since 1980 and has been director of finance since 2010, replaces John Comber who retired in 2017 after almost 20 years at the council, three as chief executive. Ms Warren will retain section 151 responsibilities for a transitional period.

In September councillors agreed to a salary range of between £194,580 and £202,900 for the post of chief executive. In his last full year as chief executive Mr Comber was paid £188,870.
