Former Norfolk CC leader dies

Tributes have been paid following the death of former Norfolk CC leader Cliff Jordan at the weekend.

Mr Jordan, aged 73, was diagnosed with lung cancer on May 18 and stepped down as the county council’s Conservative leader the following day. He passed away on Saturday.

Norfolk CC leader Andrew Proctor (Con) said: “As a Norfolk man, he had an even bigger passion for Norfolk, his home county. You don’t come across too many people like Cliff in your life.

“He spoke his mind and, whilst everyone didn’t always agree with him, he was respected. Having known Cliff for well over 20 years, although not always agreeing with him, I know he will be a sad loss to Norfolk politics and to Norfolk itself.”

Mr Jordan served as a councillor at Breckland DC between 1991 and 2015, and was first voted on to the county council in 2001. He was elected leader of the Conservative group in March 2015, becoming council leader in May 2016.

Messages of condolence can be sent to the leader’s office in Norwich County Hall and they will be passed on to Mr Jordan’s family.
