The chief executive of Hounslow LBC has been appointed chief officer at the Greater London Authority - replacing Jeff Jacobs who has retired.
Mary Harpley will start work as the head of paid service in September, leading the GLA’s corporate management team of executive directors.
London mayor Sadiq Khan (Lab) said: “There was a strong field for this role but Mary’s track-record, vision and tenacity singled her out as the ideal candidate for this important role.”
Ms Harpley has served as chief executive of Hounslow LBC for the past seven years, having previously worked as chief executive at Cherwell DC for four-and-a-half years.
Ms Harpley said: “I am delighted to be moving to City Hall to work with the mayor, the assembly, GLA staff and partners. I have lived and worked in London for most of my working life and am very excited by the opportunity to contribute to current and future work to maintain and enhance London’s status as a great city”.
Mr Jacobs retired on 4 May 2018 following seven years service at the GLA. The role is currently filled by David Lunts on an interim basis.
