Interim named after Lewisham chief Ian Thomas' sudden departure

  • Comment

Lewisham LBC has named an interim chief executive following the abrupt departure of Ian Thomas.

Janet Senior is executive director for resources and regeneration and held the chief executive role on an interim basis before Mr Thomas was appointed last March, after the previous incumbent Barry Quirk’s move to Kensington & Chelsea RBC in the wake of the Grenfell tower fire disaster.

Ms Senior joined Lewisham 30 years ago as a trainee.

Mr Thomas was in office for only seven months and LGC understands that he and elected mayor Damien Egan (Lab) found it difficult to work with one another. Mr Thomas had been appointed under the previous mayor Sir Steve Bullock (Lab).

A Lewisham statement said: “With no negative reflection on Ian, it has been decided to take a new direction”, though did not elaborate on what this was.
