North Somerset Council’s chief executive Mike Jackson is set to become Bristol City Council’s executive director for resources and head of paid service.
Bristol’s selection panel has recommended the appointment to full council, which is due to make a decision on 10 April.
If the appointment is approved, Mr Jackson will lead a new senior management structure implemented following the departure of chief executive Anna Klonowski in September last year.
Denise Murray has been acting executive director of resources.
Bristol mayor Marvin Rees (Lab) said he was “delighted” Mr Jackson had accepted the council’s offer.
He added: “Mike has a track record of building strong, sustainable partnerships and holds a wealth of experience in local government across England.”
Mr Jackson said he is “really excited” about joining the council.
He added: “I’m a passionate supporter of the need to ensure that economic growth is sustainable and inclusive and confident that despite the significant challenges, the council is poised to make real progress on this agenda.”
The council said further senior management appointments will be made in due course.
