Tottenham MP David Lammy will take on his fellow Labour parliamentarian Clive Betts in the contest to become the next chair of the Commons communities and local government committee, it has been announced.
Mr Lammy, an outspoken critic of the response to the Grenfell Tower fire, has vowed to conduct an inquiry into building regulations and fire safety if elected.
He has also pledged to focus on reform of the social care system.
Mr Betts, a former leader of Sheffield City Council, was first elected chair of the committee in 2010.
