The current chief executive of the Dorset Councils Partnership, covering North Dorset and West Dorset DCs and Weymouth & Portland BC, has been appointed chief executive of one of the new unitary councils for the county.

Matt Prosser is already serving as the interim head of paid service for at the shadow Dorset Council, the larger of two future unitary councils in the county.

The shadow senior appointments committee recommended Mr Prosser for the role, with an annual salary of £160,000 -£175,000 plus benefits.

Spencer Flower (Con), committee chair, said: “We are delighted to recommend Matt as the chief executive of the new council.

“This has been a tough process for all involved, but we are certain this decision is the right one and that Matt will continue to deliver this programme of change, which is the most exciting opportunity for local government in Dorset for over 40 years.”

Mr Prosser has previously spoken with LGC about his views on reorganisation, arguing that more councillors should be “brave” and drive the debate in their areas.
