Graham Farrant is set to be appointed chief executive of one of two new unitary councils in Dorset.
The shadow senior appointments committee of the new Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council has recommended Mr Farrant’s appointment to the full shadow authority, which is due to consider its decision at a meeting on 17 October.
Mr Farrant is currently chief executive of the Land Registry and chief registrar.
He has previously been chief executive of Thurrock Council and Barking & Dagenham LBC.
Janet Walton (Con), chair of the appointments committee, said: “This has been a rigorous process for all involved, but we believe that Graham has the right skills to take the new council forward successfully.
“We are confident that Graham’s extensive experience in both the public and private sectors mean he is the right person to take forward this exciting programme of change and transformation.”
The new council, which is the smaller of two new unitaries in Dorset, is set to be established in April next year.
The current chief executive of the Dorset Councils Partnership, Matt Prosser, was appointed chief executive of the other new council earlier this month.
