Trafford MBC has announced the appointment of Sara Todd as chief executive, starting from February.

Ms Todd, currently deputy chief executive at Manchester City Council, will fill the current vacancy left by Theresa Grant who left for Northamptonshire CC in July. She will take over from Salford City Council’s chief executive Jim Taylor who has been working in a dual role at both councils since June.

Trafford leader Andrew Western (Lab) said Ms Todd had been chosen following a “rigorous recruitment process”, adding that her appointment enjoyed “the support of all political parties”.

Cllr Western said: “There is no doubt local government continues to face many challenges but Sara has a wealth of experience and the skills we need to help make Trafford an even better place to live and work, and I am looking forward to working with her.”

Ms Todd has worked at Bolton, Oldham and Tameside councils over the past 20 years, having received a degree in town and country planning at the University of Manchester.

Full council will vote on whether to ratify the appointment on November 28.
