The Economist (p21) has published the results of its MORI opinion poll of what voters really want and the results indicate strong public support for elected mayors for local government.

According to the poll, which was carried out between 25-28 April, a majority of nine to one are behind Tony Blair's pet proposal.

There appears to be widespread support for all of Labour's proposals, with a bill of rights, Lords reform, and a Scottish parliament particularly popular.
