Leicestershire CC has been fined£15,000 after admitting failure to ensure the safety of an eight-year-old boy who drowned in a school swimming pool.

Matthew Rolington's arm became trapped in a filter pipe. The grille on the pipe had not been screwed down.

He had been starved of oxygen for too long by the time staff dragged him out, and he was diagnosed as brain dead two days later.

After the accident the council closed all 42 of its school pools for safety checks.
