Portsmouth City Council has offered to rehouse families targeted by

vigilantes protesting against paedophiles, BBC Radio Four's Today programme heard this morning.

Rob Hutchinson, director of social services at Portsmouth, said: 'The city council has been approached by people who have been wrongly identified and fear for their safety, as well as convicted sex offenders'.

He told Today the council had offered to move people on a temporary basis 'if they have a bona fide case'.
