Local government figures will lead regional postal services watchdog bodies.

Former City of Wells leader Christina Baron will chair the south west England region of Postwatch - the Consumer Council for Postal Services.

Najma Hafeez, who was the first and youngest Asian woman elected to Birmingham City Council and also chaired the social services and community affairs committees and education sub committee, will head up the Midlands region of Postwatch.

Postal services minister Jim Fitzpatrick said:

'I am sure that they will work to tackle the challenges facing Postwatch and the postal services sector and ensure continued effective consumer representation for postal services users.'
