John Prescott led a team of Labour troubleshooters to meet party members in Walsall over allegations of intimidation misconduct and lack of consultation on a council reorganisation, writes The Guardian (p12)

The Guardian says that local members, including council leader Dave Church were 'in no mood for reconciliation'.

Before the meeting with the Labour deputy leader, Clare Short MP, and Nigel Harris chair of the party's disputes committee, Mr Church said:

'We're going to say to them 'we expect you now to put up or shut up. We expect you to demonstrate and prove that there had been no bullying, intimidation and threats'. Alternatively we want them to admit it was all a big mistake.'

The Guardian reports that most of the 27 council community service staff who are to be made redundant in November picketed yesterday's meeting.
