The Housing Corporation has banned the housing association Pickering and Ferens Homes from new developments amid allegations that its senior members had helped to provide homes for colleagues, the Mail on Sunday claims (p18).

The paper says the housing association is dominated by senior Labour councillors in Hull and is chaired by John Black, also chairman of the council's housing committee. Mr Black is a close friend of Labour's deputy prime minister John Prescott and has been described as his political mentor.
