A legal expert is calling for the government to change the law governing who can register a vote, reports BBC Three Counties.

Philip Leach is a member of an umbrella group including the Prison reform Trust, Liberty and charities for the mentally ill and the homeless. They are concerned that many people they represent are not getting the right to vote because of complex rules governing registration.

Mr Leach said it was vital the law was changed and that the group would take test cases to court if necessary.

He said: 'We are calling for authorities to ensure that information about the right to register to vote be very widely publicised. It should be available in hospital, for example'.
