Victims of a paedophile priest are to sue Warwickshire CC as well as the Catholic Church over their ordeal at an orphanage, reported The Birmingham Post (5 June, p5).

The first writs in what could be a million-pound claim for compensation by a group of about 20 men who suffered at the hands of Eric Taylor have now been finalised.

The first writs, from three brothers who suffered sexual abuse at the hands of Taylor, will be served this week on the Father Hudson Society, which ran the orphanage, and on the county council.

Taylor was jailed for seven years in April last year after he was convicted of 16 counts of indecent assault and two other serious sexual offences between 1957 and 1965.

The basis of the compensation claims will be negligence in that both the council and the home had a duty of care to the children.

A spokesman for the council said: 'We are not aware of any claims.'
