Opt-out schools may soon be able to raise private capital for building projects such as swimming pools and sports complexes under changes to public funding rules being considered by the government, The Guardian reports (p5).

Private finance, which would require legislation, would enable the schools to develop 'extras' which do not attract state funding.

Schools with an existing income from land or buildings would be best placed to attract private investment, since lenders would be unlikely to close schools which defaulted on loans, the paper reported.
