Ms Hughes has been MP for Stretford and Urmston since 1997. She has been minister of state, Home Office since 2002. She was a member, Trafford MBC from 1986-97 (leader 1995-97); and parliamentary under-secretary of state, DETR, 1999-2001, Home Office, 2001-02.
