How would you describe best value?
As a great opportunity for authorities to achieve significant improvement in services to the public. It is about thinking big - ensuring services support wider policies, including community planning, sustainable development and the promotion of social inclusion and equalities.
What is the biggest barrier to best value?
Changing the mind-set of local government so that continuous review becomes second nature.
Which of your services offers best value?
Ofsted recently inspected Coventry's education function and the report was very favourable. Coventry has also been awarded beacon status for Action Against Crime.
How much progress is best value making in your area?
The hard work done so far needs to be built on, by integrating our improved performance management systems into the day to day activity of the Council.
We are very pleased to have been accepted as a pilot public service agreement authority. This will help us to keep up the momentum of real service improvement.
What is your favourite book of all time?
I think it's probably Germinal by Emile Zola
