Before moving into managerial roles he was a social worker at Brent, where he was also actively involved in the Ealing NALGO trade union branch.
Elected member of the Greater London Council as representative for Ealing North.
Served as a local councillor in Ealing from 1986-90 and was chair of Ealing’s planning and economic development committee.
St. Edward’s College, Liverpool.
Studied politics, philosophy and economics at Jesus College, Oxford.
Qualification in social work at the Polytechnic of the South Bank in London.
Personal life: Married with three children. Lists his interests as foreign travel, hill walking, photography, aviation, jazz and blues music and Liverpool FC.
